Damsel Lover

Murders in the Rue Morgue (1932).  This is Bela Lugosi and Arlene Francis.  Horror movies became more and more gruesome after Dracula(1931), Frankenstein (1931), and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931) started the ball rolling.  It seemed like every film had to outdo the previous one until the production code stepped in to stop the fun in mid-1934.  Murders in the Rue Morgue continued the process by adding outright torture to the mix in this scene.
